Nel 2018 circa 820 milioni di persone non hanno avuto cibo a sufficienza, rispetto agli 811 milioni dell'anno precedente: l'aumento è stato registrato per il terzo anno consecutivo. Ciò evidenzia la grandezza della sfida di raggiungere l'Obiettivo di Sviluppo Sostenibile Fame Zero entro il 2030, afferma la una nuova edizione del Rapporto annuale sullo Stato della Sicurezza Alimentare e della Nutrizione nel mondo, nel 2019, pubblicato nella sede della FAO a New York.
